When These Streets Heard Yiddish

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research wants to put their educational curriculum, The Educational Program on Yiddish Culture (EPYC), online. In their own words, "The EPYC website 'When These Streets Heard Yiddish', is a multimedia companion tool to the package, enabling teachers and students to get acquainted with the great Yiddish culture of Eastern Europe by exploring archival photographs, sound recordings, and educational essays at their own pace."

When These Streets Heard Yiddish is an ambitious project, and Iridesco created the entire site from scratch, using PHP, MySQL, and Flash. We also took advantage of GNU's gettext package so that it will be easier later on to translate the site into other languages. We are really proud of the final website and to be part of something that can contribute to our culture!

Check out the EPYC website!

Services: programming (PHP, MySQL), interactive design, flash development

We used Flash extensively to create a funner and hopefully richer experience for the young students.
